The free tools: nothing to process

The free Strategic Student tools collect no student personally identifiable information. They run in the browser, store nothing, and transmit nothing to us. There's no processing of student data to govern, which is why districts can use the free tools without an agreement in place. For the full picture, see our privacy and FERPA pages.

The products: a DPA is available

Strategic Sidekick and Strategic District work with real student data. For those products, a Data Processing Agreement is available for your legal and technology teams to review before anything is signed. The summary below describes the shape of that agreement at a high level.

Data categories

The products process the student indicators a school or district already maintains: attendance, academics, behavior, and stability markers, along with the roster information needed to connect those indicators to a student record inside your own system.

Purpose

Data is processed for one purpose: to surface which students need support and to help your team act on it. It's used to power early-warning views, intervention tracking, and reporting for the district that owns the data. It is never used for advertising, and it is never sold.

Retention

Data is retained only for as long as the district maintains an active agreement, and it's deleted on request or at the end of the relationship. The district remains the owner of its data throughout, and controls what happens to it.

Subprocessors

Where the products rely on third-party infrastructure, such as hosting and database providers, those subprocessors are disclosed in the full DPA along with their roles. We keep the list short and name every party your data touches.
